The Return to the Track

Writer: AdminAdmin

Last week saw the first dirt track races take place in America since the shutdown for the Covid pandemic. The first night was such a success that it saw Speed Shift almost crashing due to the high demand of viewers. The following night saw another race of IMCA classes at the track across the street. The key to this was that there was very little backlash from these races taking place. Next is the World of Outlaws at Knoxville and the World of Outlaws Late Models at Boone, both are invite only and will more than likely have great turnouts. Locally, we saw cars hit the track again as Devils Lake Speedway has hosted Test N Tune sessions which seem to have gone over extremely well.

This past weekend seems to be a positive step for racing. It also saw the announcement of a couple tracks setting their opening race date. First, was Devil's Lake Speedway as they announced that they will be getting started on May 9th with Wissota Midwest Mods, Wissota Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and will be highlighted by the Western Renegade Wingless Sprints (photo is James Jones). The other track that announced their opening night was McLean County Speedway. They announced that they will host racing May 15th and will have the Western Renegade Wingless Sprints on hand. This will be the first time that the track will host sprint cars and it should be an exciting night.

The Eastern side of the state is going off of what the governor says but is looking to open as early as possible. River Cities has announced that their opener has been pushed back to May 22. Red River Valley has postponed their opener and is closely keeping an eye out to what the governor says.

The rest of the state is in a holding pattern and waiting to get the clearance by the governor. However, this doesn't mean that the tracks won't be hosting Test N Tune sessions. So if that intrigues you, get a hold of your local track and see if they have any openings.

It's only a matter of time folks, racing is sneaking up on us as we speak. Racers get your cars ready, there should be no excuses about not having enough time this year. Fans, continue to support the sponsors of the track to and let them know that your are supporting them because they sponsor the track. If we all do are part we are going to be ok. Everybody, be safe and we'll see you at the races.
