Three years ago a group of racing enthusiasts tossed around the idea of how to attract more late models to the Jamestown Stock Car Stampede. After a week or so the idea of an incentive program was agreed upon. The idea was to use a similar format of the USA Nationals Fans Fund Incentive Program to help bring in new drivers and drivers who may not have participated in a few years. With that the Stampede Shake Down Incentive Program was formed and the search for new drivers began. The first class of drivers to partake in the Shake Down included Brody Troftgruben, Craig Rodgers, Matt Smith, and Dave Smith. These drivers laid the foundation of what to expect from the Shake Down group and that was a mix of unique and very talented drivers.
The second year of the Shake Down Incesentive Program saw another stout field of drivers who
decided to participate. Drivers from all over the Midwest were present to take part of the Shake Down. One of the highlights that had late model fans excited was the returning Howie Schill! Howie would finish fifth for the weekend while his son Cole would win his first ever Jamestown Stock Car Stampede late model feature! One driver from who also had an extremely impressive weekend was Derek Vessel who led most of the feature before being passed on a restart. The rest of the Shake Down contingents also had impressive showings for the weekend and the group consisting of Dan Dowling, Derek Vessel, Howie Schill, Trent Grager, and Virgil Randall had an extremely impressive showing!
So the program enters its third year and already we have had a few drivers commit to the program or have shown interest in participating in the contingency program. The group wants to continue to bring in a diverse group of late models for all race fans to watch! In doing so we need some leads for late model drivers who may be interested in partaking in the Shake Down Program.
