Last week we discussed the second part of our season preview for the 2021 race season. To finish it off we set our sights on the eastern part of the state and the four respective tracks that are left. Much like the rest of the state there is a lot of moving pieces that are finally settling into place for the 2021 race season. So without further ado let's dive in and see what's in store for us out east.
River Cities Speedway:
The legendary bull ring sits and waits patiently for the season to kick off May 7. River Cities schedule looks fairly familiar with a new and intriguing race weekend thrown in as well. Expect big things as the World of Outlaws stop by not once, not twice, but three times this year as the late models and the sprint cars make their presence known in our state. The bullring has held some f the most spectacular World of Outlaw sprint car races and looks to double down again this year. If late models are your thing then there's the World of Outlaw late models show and the ever so popular Seitz Memorial race held during the invitational season. Stops from the Rebel Midwest Mod Tour and the Steffes Street Stock Tour also highlight the schedule as well. Tee new event for the year however is the new King of the Wing Weekend, which sees a double header weekend in May for the NOSA sprint cars. Defending track champions are Austin Pierce (NOSA sprints), Dustin Strand (Wissota late models), Matt Schow (Wissota Midwest mods), and Ryan Johnson (Wissota street stocks).
Devils Lake Speedway:
Last year Devil's Lake Speedway was the first track back, this year they have put themselves in a position to be right at the front again. Devils Lake was the unofficial home track for the Western Renegades Wingless Sprint Cars and held them just about every week in their inaugural season. This year they will continue to be the main hub for the wingless sprints. Their season will be highlighted by multiple stops by the NOSA sprints and the NLRA late models. Other highlight events that are on the schedule are the Cliff Reeves Memorial/Steffes Street Stock Tour, both of the Walhalla Golden Hammer races (June 26: late model challenge/July 24: Midwest modified race), and will wrap up with the Purestock Nationals on September 18. The defending track champions for the year are Nate Reynolds (Wissota Midwest mods), Trey Hess (Wissota street stocks), Myles Tomlinson (wingless sprints), and Joe Armstrong (pure stocks).
Red River Valley Speedway:
After what seemed to be an off season of a lot of unknowns the Red River Valley has made some interesting moves. First, was the addition of the IMCA Racesaver 305 sprint cars. This is an interesting move as they already have a fairly strong field of cars each and every night that they race. So we will see who will join this class as not much noise has came from it yet besides Tye Wilke having plans to run it. The other was the intriguingly late schedule announcement. This caused a lot of stir from the fans but with that it caused a lot of intrigue to arise, which is a good thing. The highlights of the year look to be the Stock Car Kingpin Clash/IMCA RaceSaver MN Sprint Series, the Dakota Cat Mod Shootout, and the World of Outlaws sprint cars with the NLRA late models. The defending track champions for the year are Austin Arneson (IMCA modifieds), Todd Heinrich (IMCA stock car), Rich Pavlicek (IMCA sport mods), Brodee Eckerdt (IMCA hobby stock), and Tye Wilke (INEX legends).
Sheyenne Speedway:
Last but certainly not least is the Sheyenne Speedway over in Lisbon. They have had multiple schedules posted so we will have to go back through and update our season schedule but the latest one looks extremely promising. The track also has been putting a lot of work in on the track as they have added a new section of grandstands and have extended the front stretch wall. Sheyenne looks to have a star studded lineup of races this year as the NLRA makes a return. Other big races for the track are stops by the Steffes Street Stock Tour and the Rebel Midwest Modified Tour. It will also serve as the final night of the Rebel Midwest Modified Tour which will see the winner taking home $5,000. The other race that often gathers an extremely large car count is their Memorial Day race. The defending track champions for the year are Zach Reinke (Wissota Midwest mods), Jonny Carter (Wissota street stocks), Tye Wilke (INEX legends), Bo Gregor (hobby stocks), Gavin Walton (mini stocks).
There you have it folks! The 2021 season preview for each track in the state and one from our friends north of the border! The season should kick off this week or next week depending on the weather so get out there and support your local track! With that being said have an excellent race season and we will see you at the races!
