Friday night marks the return and the opening night of the CAN-AM Late Model Tour and this year it plans to be another big year for the tour! This year the late models will be adding a second weekend out in Western North Dakota as they make their return to two tracks. The new tracks to the tour this year are McLean County Speedway and the Southwest Speedway. There is some major significance to these tracks joining the tour this year as it forces the tour to add a second weekend and that neither of these tracks have ran late models in the past ten years!
McLean County Speedway looks to host it's first late model race in about twenty years. This year looks to be a lot more successful than their previous attempt as the late model car count is expected to be around fifteen to twenty cars in attendance. Drivers that have committed to McLean so far are Aaron Turnbull, Dylan Barnhardt, Beau Nave, Jim Harris, and Chris Dunn. Don't be surprised to see some of the NLRA guys venture out west as the payouts are definitely impressive. Another guy to keep an eye on will be the Bisrmack Native Paul Mueller as he may make the tow to McLean to support the Can-Am Tour.
After night one the Can-Am Tour heads down to Dickinson and the Southwest Speedway. The Southwest Speedway is another track awakening from its late model slumber as the late models return for the first time since 2006. The tour will look to have an increase in drivers as rumor has it that some of the late model drivers from Aberdeen have taken notice of the race and look to head over. The tour also looks to add Craig Rodgers to the field as he had mentioned that he was interetested in making the tow over to compete. The night could easily see a field of twenty to thirty late models.
After this weekend the Can-Am Tour will take a slight break before concluding in August as it heads to Estevan Motor Speedway (aug. 2nd), Williston Basin Speedway (aug 3), and closing out at the NoDak Speedway (aug 4). The tour is sponsored by K&D Services, Storbakken and Son's Construction, Beck Transfer Seidler Farms, P&B Transport, Kips Equipment, CJ Rigging, TJD Services, and Beck Heating & Air, LLC.
Racing starts at 7:00 both nights and both nights will be a nights of racing that you won't want to miss! Stay tuned for the results and the preview of the second leg of the Can-Am Late Model Tour.
