Who Will Be the Iron Man?

Jessup Pelkey

Racing is a very physical and wearing sport. That's right, it's a demanding sport and while there are no touchdowns, home runs, or slam dunks, there is a winner. One winner. One goal. One Iron Man.

Enter Dacotah Speedway, the track that is risking it all to put on one of the summer's must unique and most challenging IMCA modified races. For two nights (three counting the practice night) some of the nation's best drivers will be attending the Iron Man 100.

Thursday night will give drivers an opportunity to turn some practice laps. Friday night the Iron Man kicks off with IMCA modified heats and dual $1,000 to win qualifying features. These dual features will help set part of the field for Saturday's 100 lap feature. Friday night's IMCA modified features will also double as Fast Shaft Invitational qualifying races. The winners will be put onto a ballot for face fans to vote on and partake in the event at the IMCA Super Nationals down in Boone this September.

Joining the IMCA Modifieds are the WISSOTA street stocks who will have a forty lap feature and joining them will also be the INEX legends. Both will be racing for increased purses as the street stocks will be racing for $500 to win while the INEX legends will be racing for $200 to win. The rest of the field will also see an increase pay for the feature placing as well.

Friday night's action will continue off the track once the racing action comes to a conclusion. Atomic DJ will be playing music late into the night, well after the races. The concessions will also be open for fans, drivers, and pit crews to get a late night bite. To wash down the food, the beer shack will also be open to help quench anyone's thirst with a tasty beverage.

Saturday night the racing action will see the hobby stocks, IMCA sport compacts, and the 2 Strong IMCA sport mod tour joining the fray. The hobby stocks, which has had incredibly strong and consistent car counts, will be starting three wide for their feature. The 2 Strong Tour will also be racing for a very impressive purse and will also award the winner of its feature a free entrance to the Harris Clash at Deer Creek later this summer.

The IMCA modifieds will run bmains and will conclude the night with an one hundred lap feature. There will be a pit stop at the halfway point which will allow drivers to add fuel to the cars. Drivers and pit crews can change tires and make changes if they wish to. However, if they do anything other than add fuel and tear offs they will be forced to start at the rear of the field. The driver who can endure and outlast the rest of the field to claim the checkered flag first will receive $5,000 for their efforts.

The Iron Man 100 is sponsored by Coors Light distributed by Jerome's. Remember if your can doesn't have blue mountains put it back and grab an ice cold Coors Light.

Pit passes are $30 and driver registration is $150 for IMCA Modifieds. Camping is also available at Dacotah Speedway but space is limited, reserve your spot online at https://www.dacotahspeedway.net/fans/campground.aspx.
