This Saturday at the Jamestown Speedway a new chapter in modified racing in the state of North Dakota will begin. The Tri-City IMCA Modified Series will kick off its inaugural season as it kicks off the six race series. Three tracks will be the host sites for the series as all three tracks happen to fall in line along interstate 94. Those tracks will include the Dacotah Speedway, Jamestown Speedway, and the Red River Valley Speedway. Each track will host two nights of IMCA Modified racing and the other two tracks will not have the IMCA Modifieds competing on the same night as a sign of respect for the tracks involved. This is a major deal to see the tracks working in unison as this year seems to have a lot of tracks competing with each other and their marque events. This series will also provide another opportunity for drivers to travel and to support other tracks within the state which is a big deal as well.
Besides these initial aspects which makes this series so intriguing there are the incentives for all of the drivers as well. First, there is the payout as each race will pay the winner $1,000 to win each night. This is a very hansome bump in the purse and will undoubtedly intrigue some of the best drivers that the state has to off, no matter whether it be from the East or the West. Second, there is the potential for a points fund purse and this will be confirmed in the upcoming days. The points fund purse is looking to be around $5,000 and will pay back to about tenth place (this will be confirmed as well in the upcoming days). But wait there are more neat aspects that will be going into this challenge series. There are some really exciting contingency prizes as well. There are two barrels of methanol for the champion of the series thanks to VP Race Fuels. Then there is Greg Friestad's contribution of which he is giving the twelfth place finisher of each race a brand new tire. Not to be out done Fargo has some exciting items gathered for the drivers as well.
Now the racing format is also intriguing as the drivers will use the draw system for the their heat starting positions. However, they will be using passing points to determine who will make the feature and the lineups of the bmains. The use of passing points should be a popular decision for the drivers as it is often spoken of in high regards.
The Tri-City IMCA Modified Series will start May 25 at Jamestown Speedway before heading East to the Red River Valley Speedway June 28. The next night the Series will return to Jamestown again for their second appearance at that track. The Tri-City IMCA Modified series will then take some time off before returning to action at the Red River Valley Speedway August 2. This then leaves the final two dates at the Dacotah Speedway. The first night will be August 23 where they will join the other local classes who will be battling for their season championship finale. The Series then returns for Oktoberfest September 27 to crown the inaugural winner.
There should be a strong following of drivers this summer heading East and West for this great opportunity. It will also expose fans to new drivers who they may have never head of.
