Spring is here and summer is quickly approaching...or so they say. Looking out my window right now it's cold and windy and there were only a hand full of tracks open for this weekend. Let's be honest with ourselves, it's been a pretty rough start to the year as Mother Nature has postponed openers, canceled races, and straight out has kept the fans and drivers away from the tracks. So let's break it down and look at the numbers.

Mother Nature has one of the best winning percentages and has claimed eleven races so far this season (27 potential races). That comes down to a winning percentage of 40% as of now. It has taken wins on the following dates at the following tracks:on the list below. So far the highlight for Mother Nature this year has been keeping Devils Lake and Sheyenne from getting their first race in yet. This should be changing in the upcoming week as Mother Nature just can't be that lucky and these tracks are bound to have better weather.
Now let's not get too depressed folks, the local tracks have literally been pulling out all the stops to get races in and to fend off the advances of mother nature. First, Dacotah Speedway got a string of three races in before being forced to drop a race to mother nature. Since their initial rain outs Estevan, Red River, and Nodak have gotten mutliple races to keep the doors open. Jamestown, Southwest, McLean, WIlliston, Tri-County, Thunder Mountain, and River Cities have all been able to get a race in to kick off the 2019 season. The remaining tracks that are looking to open their doors for the 2019 season are Devils Lake and Sheyenne. Currently, the state has had sixteen raced events this year and that's a positive percentage of 59%. Below are the dates and tracks that got their racing events in for the season.
So while 59% isn't the greatest percentage ever, it is a very respectable amount of races that have been raced during a very challenging spring. Mother Nature is looking to put a beat down on the tracks, drivers, and fans but I got a good feeling that its winning percentage is going to go down one we hit June. Check back throughout the summer as we track to see who will take the overall win this year.
