Summer is slowly creeping in on us as winters icy grasp on the region is now relinquishing. During the long dormant winter the sprints have sat idle but that doesn’t mean that everything has been sitting. No, the sprint car crews and drivers have been hard at it getting their winged chariots ready for another big year of racing in North Dakota. The 2019 sprint car season will be busy as ever as just about every track in the state (except three) will see a sprint car series roll through it this year. The fans will have a variety of Series to choose from as there will be four different series providing winged action for the fans this year. First, there is the World of Outlaws that will be making three appearances this year as they will be racing at River Cities twice and Red River Valley once. The fans will get to see some of the best in the nation square off against the best that the state has to offer. Home state favorite Donny Schatz looks to continue his dominance here and looks to enjoy fans actually cheering for him instead of the normal boos.

The second series is the NOSA 410 series. The Northern Outlaw Sprints Association looks to have another great season scheduled as they will be racing twenty nine times this year at nine different tracks. One highlight for their season is the Governor’s Cup weekend at Dacotah Speedway. They will be racing two complete shows that weekend at the fast 3/8 mile track. The Saturday show will see a band playing before the races start along with samples of food. The 2018 series champion was Wade Nygaard who fended off Jade Hastings and Jordan Adams.
The third series is the Can-Am Outlaw Sprint Series or otherwise known as CAOSS. CAOSS had a very busy season last year after racing all over the state. They look to have another solid season schedule which takes them from Devils Lake Speedway to Nodak Speedway. They will also be Co-Sanctioning the Governor’s Cup weekend at Dacotah Speedway as well. The Co-Sanctioned Governor’s Cup saw over thirty of the best regional sprint cars race and look to draw another great field of drivers. The other highlighting race of the CAOSS series is the Tyler Fedyk Memorial at Nodak Speedway. Last year the race was won by Kyle Fedyk and looks to be another can’t miss race this year as well.

The last but certainly not least series making its rounds is the Northern Lightning Sprint Association (NLSA). Now these guys are a little different compared to the other series as the cars a little bit smaller and use smaller engines. However, don’t let this shake you as these guys are just as fierce as the other series. This year the NLSA looks to have a great season as they will be running a variety of tracks but still mainly calling Greenbush their home track. However, they will be traveling to Jamestown Speedway, River Cities Speedway, Red River Valley Speedway, Sheyenne Speedway, and Tri-County Speedway. One of the biggest race weekends of the year for them is the Tri-County Fair weekend as it always seems to have a great turnout of cars.
There is also one bonus series making a debut appearance this year and that is the POWRi-Northern Renegades Non-Winged Sprint Car Series. This is an association that is based out of northern Minnesota and they align with the UMSS Traditional Sprints. The Renegades will be competing at the Red River Valley Speedway on June 7 and at the River Cities Speedway on August 30. This will mark the first time that they have sanctioned races in North Dakota. They bring a wild and on the edge element that is slightly different than what the winged sprints bring.
This season looks to be another spectacular one for the sprint car fans! Make sure to get out and support your local tracks as they put on some of the best racing that money can buy. If you want to find out more information about the series or upcoming races check out the following links.
