Dakota Classic Modified Tour Shaking Things Up???

Jessup Pelkey

The Dakota Classic Modified Tour seems to be ready to shake things up a bit this year. In a facebook post today from the Tour's page, it is stated that those running the tour are hearing the voices calling for a different format for the 2019 Tour. The DCMT has ran their format with the following format, draw lineup, heat winners go to the A main and the rest head to the B mains and work their way in from there. There are many fans and drivers who wish the series would go to a passing points format where drivers earn their way into the A main by driving their way into it. Drivers would be earning points based on how many cars they passed, where they started and where they finished. Now this is the super watered down version of passing points but this gives you the essential idea of passing points.

The DCMT would put a slight spin on how they would incorporate passing points into their races. The heat winners would still be the top eight in the A main and would do the frisbee draw to determine their starting positions. Using the passing points system the top eight in passing points (who did not win their heats) would then take the next eight spots in the A main. The remaining drivers who did qualify for the A main would line up their B mains based off of their passing points.

Now it should be noted that nothing is officially in place as in the same post it was stated that they still might go with how the Arizona Mod Tour used passing points. This is basically flip flopped of what DCMT had suggested. What is fascinating is that this is something that has been pushed off for a long time and is now being brought up. What might come from this? We will have to wait and see but you can voice your opinion on the facebook page for the tour https://www.facebook.com/dakotamodtour/ ,
