In just four days the Southwest Speedway in Dickinson North Dakota will be hosting the first ever Richard Jordan Memorial. Taking center stage on this night are the Wissota Street Stocks along with the rest of the normal classes ran with the exception of the IMCA Sport Mods.

Richard Jordan was a long time racer who started his racing career in 1986 around the of sixteen and competed in many varieties of racing including drag racing and demolition derbies. Richard was a well respected competitor who brought true family values into the pits as he helped his daughters follow his footsteps into racing. Breanna and Hailey have competed with their father and look to continue the tradition as both will be competing in the field of drivers.
The memorial race itself will be part of the Rough Rider Days celebration taking place in Dickinson. The race itself originally was slated to pay the winner $1,000. However, since then it has sky rocketed to $2,465 going to first and second receiving $1,200. The race pays $125 to start and the non-qualifiers will receive $25. The increase in the purse makes the memorial race one of the most hansom purses in Wissota country. The race itself rivals the long standing Little Dream Street Stock Invitational held at Rice Lake Speedway in Wisconsin for one of the best paying Street Stock races.
The Southwest Speedway racing board expects a strong turn out for the Street Stock class which saw itself being cut from competition from the program before being added back earlier this winter. The concern was that the class numbers were too low to sustain the class. However, the new board feels that the class can be saved and that the memorial race can help serve that purpose.
Racers from across the midwest are expected to attend the race. Travelling drivers will be coming from Aberdeen, Rapid City, and Billings. There is also a very strong potential that the race may intrigue Street Stock drivers from Minnesota and Wisconsin who will be contending for one of the coveted 24 starting spots in the A main. In attendance will also be the two daughters (Hailey and Breanna) of the late Richard Jordan. Hailey is currently sitting in the top 10 in Street Stock points at Southwest Speedway.
For those interested in going to the race it will start at 6:00 PM Mountain time and for those who are unable to attend it be available to watch as it will be provided by Darn TV (https://darntv.com). Ticket prices for the memorial race are the same as a weekly show to provide the fans a top notch and family friendly experience!
***As for the Sport Mods, they were given the night off in an effort to help support the 2 Strong Sport Mod Memorial Race held at Thunder Mountain Speedway to honor the passing of Robbie Conway. The event will pay $2,222.22 to the winner of the Sport Mod feature!
